HeadRoom was responsible for the first commercially available portable headphone amp in 1992. If I felt the need for it, others also would. Some ten years later I had the opportunity to start a company and remembered that little headphone amp.

I set to work building one, and when done I was very happy to hear my cans blossom into full throat. What I needed was a miniature power amplifier for my cans. Then one day, in a brilliant flash of neurons, I realized that the wimpy headphone amp circuits in the Discman might not be fully capable of authoritative control of the headphones. I thought about what might be missing for a long time. They were much better than the stock earbuds, but still didn’t sound as good as I hoped. So I bought some Beyerdynamic DT801 headphones. I had a Walkman and thought it sounded like crap. Thirty years ago I use to travel a lot fixing scanning electron microscopes. We will continue monitoring this thread for at least the next few days and might be able to address any follow-up questions (but no guarantees on this). Everyone had a blast doing this AMA as we frequently drifted from open discussion to curious and humorous amusement. Reddit you were every bit as awesome as we could have expected- honest, intelligent, and largely good natured. **Update** Alright everyone, I think we are going to call it a night (7:40PM MST). We all stand ready and willing to answer any and all of your questions! The team (or those who were willing to step away from Solidworks for the picture): Questions that fall into other areas (departments), will be read but I cannot guarantee an answer. I hope to read each question and get the best and most **honest** answer possible. That said, we know that mistakes have been made but we are passionate about this stuff and dedicated to maintaining and developing top-notch sound products for everything within and even above our pricing categories.* *Like you guys, we are a bunch of audiophiles who have a passion for building good sound, or rather a ""supreme sound"", as our marketing guys call it. Kudos to both the community and the /r/headphones modsįull disclosure- I lead systems and infrastructure (IT), but a good chunk of R&D is actively monitoring and participating in this AMA. Big fans of the sub and Reddit in general.
